JACKSON, Mo. -- Walter R. Aufdenberg, 81, of Jackson, Missouri, was called to his eternal home on Saturday, June 30, 2001. Mr. Aufdenberg was born Dec. 31, 1919, the son of the late Louis W. and Hulda Werner Aufdenberg. He married Ruth A. Allen on Sept. 13, 1947...

JACKSON, Mo. -- Walter R. Aufdenberg, 81, of Jackson, Missouri, was called to his eternal home on Saturday, June 30, 2001.

Mr. Aufdenberg was born Dec. 31, 1919, the son of the late Louis W. and Hulda Werner Aufdenberg. He married Ruth A. Allen on Sept. 13, 1947.

Mr. Aufdenberg was a farmer in the Oriole community for most of his life. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Egypt Mills for 45 years, serving on the church council for 10 years.

He served his country during World War II for three years, with the Fifth Army, in the European Theatre of War. He was credited with five bronze stars, representing five major campaigns.

Mr. Aufdenberg is survived by his wife; three sons, Kenneth and Richard Aufdenberg of Cape Girardeau, Johnie Aufdenberg of Jackson; four daughters, Katherine Wagner, Tammy Lueders, Sandra Smith and Angela Boren, all of Jackson; 12 grandchildren, Chad and Tasha Lucas, Daniel and Michael Aufdenberg, Andrew Wagner, Brianna and Brandon Lueders, Allison, Jordan and Taylor Smith, Shanda and Kailen Boren; four stepgrandchildren, R.V. Boren, Robbie, Sarah and Samantha Meyers; two great-grandchildren, Evan Aufdenberg and Destinee Jenkins; and a great-stepgrandchild, Lara Meyers.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jacqueline S. Lucas; a granddaughter, Christen J. Aufdenberg; three brothers, Arnold, Victor and Wilmond Aufdenberg; and three sisters, Bernice Schaper, Helen Bruce and Elizabeth Aufdenberg.

Friends may call today from 4-8 p.m. at Ford & Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel in Cape Girardeau.

Funeral will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Egypt Mills Trinity Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Mark Martin officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery with military services conducted by VFW Post 3838.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or the Trinity Lutheran Church of Egypt Mills Building Fund.
