Waddy E. Davis of Cape Girardeau, a former mayor and city councilman here, died Sunday, May 10, 1992, at the Lutheran Home.
He was born March 9, 1903, in Spring Hill, Ky., son of John Edgar and Maude Harris Davis. He and Elsie Mae Carter were married in 1939.
Davis moved to Cape Girardeau in 1940, and was an auditor with Standard Oil Co. 32 years, retiring in 1960. He then owned and operated Cape Coal Co. here several years.
He became associated with city government in April 1964, serving as mayor under the commission system. He was then elected as a member of the first council under the city manager plan, which went into effect Sept. 20, 1965. He resigned in November 1965, to become administrator of a hospital in Clinton, Ky. He also farmed in Kentucky.
Davis was a past president of Kiwanis Club and Masonic Lodge. He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church and its Men's Club.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Phillip and Jerry Davis of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Jane Kohler of Aurora, Colo., and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother and sister.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel, with the Rev. Ivan Nothdurft officiating.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. today.
