William James Evans, 72, 144 Edgewood, died Sunday, Nov. 26, 1995, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
He was born Dec. 4, 1922, in Murphysboro, Ill., son of William H. and Louise Borgers Evans. He and Ruth Campbell were married April 14, 1947, in Cape Girardeau.
Evans was a graduate of Murphysboro High School, Southern Illinois University, and 1946 graduate of St. Louis College of Pharmacy.
He was a pharmacist at Medical Arts Pharmacy 30 years, and then did relief work at Finney's Drug Store, John's Pharmacy and other pharmacies in the area.
Evans was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral, served as cantor and formerly served on the parish council. He was a former president of Notre Dame High School Board. He was a member of Downtown Rotary Club, Cape County Pharmaceutical Association, and St. Louis College of Pharmacy Alumni Association.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, William Evans of Cape Girardeau, Michael Evans of St. Louis; two sisters, Eugenia Pardo of Sebastian, Fla., Elizabeth Jurjevich of Glenwood Park, Ill., and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel from 4-8 p.m. today. Parish prayers will be at 7.
Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Cathedral. Msgr. Richard Rolwing and the Rev. James Seyer will officiate, with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery.
