WOLF LAKE, Ill. -- Virginia Rose Smith, 77, of Wolf Lake died Thursday, Nov. 16, 1995, at her home.

She was born May 22, 1918, near Dutchtown, Mo., the daughter of John and Alice Forcee Hamel.

On Oct. 23, 1943, she married Ellis Smith, who preceded her in death on Jan. 22, 1994.

Survivors include three daughters, Margaret Dale of Jonesboro, Grace Holderfield of Anna and Kathryn Yow of Carbondale; four sons, Joe Smith, Harold Smith, Elvis Smith and Ellis Smith all of Wolf Lake; two sisters, Sarah Tripp of Jonesboro and Eva Vines of Waukegan, two half sisters, Francis Newbowels and Mattie Hamel of Springfield; a half brother, Otis Hamel of Jonesboro; 16 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and five step great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by two brothers, three sisters and two grandchildren.

She attended the Ware United Methodist Church.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. Saturday at the chapel of Hileman & Parr Funeral Services in Jonesboro, where funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in the Jonesboro Cemetery.
