ADVANCE, Mo. — Virginia Sprenger Wilfong, 95, passed away peacefully from this life Thursday, Nov. 24, 2016, at the Advance Nursing Center.
She was born Feb. 9, 1921, in Commerce, Missouri, the daughter of Emil A. and Amanda D. Koch Sprenger.
Virginia retired after 21 years of working from the Inland Shoe Factory in Advance. She helped start the VFW in Advance and also worked as a cook at the Advance Senior Citizen Center. She was a member of Brownwood General Baptist Church.
Virginia and Lloyd Amen Wilfong were united in marriage April 22, 1945, in St. Louis, and he preceded her in death Aug. 31, 1985.
Survivors include five daughters, Cinda Westbrook of Cape Girardeau, Peggy Hacker of Bloomfield, Missouri, Judith Rayburn of Cape Girardeau, Glenda Wiseman of Bloomfield and Marilyn “Cricket” (Steve) Thompson of Bloomfield; a brother, Paul (Lucy) Sprenger of St. Louis; three sisters, Margaret Ruhge of Melbourne, Florida, Helen Butterfield of Meridan, Idaho, and Linda Hensler of St. Charles, Missouri; a sister-in-law; Betty Sprenger of Jackson; 13 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other friends and relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Lloyd Wayne Wilfong; a grandson, Todd Wiseman; a great-grandbaby McCullough; a brother, Glen Sprenger; two sisters, Betty Myer and Ollie Pollard; a son-in-law, Franklin M. Rayburn Jr.; and a great-granddaughter, Alyssa R. Wiggins.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel, with the Rev. Keith Price and the Rev. Aaron Lingle officiating. Burial will be at Morgan Memorial Park in Advance.
