SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Virginia E. Schwab, 93, was called home Thursday, Jan. 12, 2017. She was born Aug. 6, 1923, to Ruby M. Friend and Walter C. Heimbaugh in Oran, Missouri. SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Virginia E. Schwab, 93, was called home Thursday, Jan. 12, 2017.

She was born Aug. 6, 1923, to Ruby M. Friend and Walter C. Heimbaugh in Oran, Missouri.

She graduated from Cape Girardeau Central High School in 1941. For many years, she worked as a medical assistant to Dr. Dennis Elrod.

While living in Cape Girardeau, she was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, the Cape Girardeau Country Club and the Executive Club. For 68 years, she was a member of the St. Mark's Eastern Star Chapter 167.

In 1983, she moved to Sun City West, Arizona, where she was a member of Desert Garden United Church of Christ. She became a Lioness in the Sun City West Lions Club. In February 2008, she moved to Chaparral Winds Retirement Center at Surprise.

She first was married to the late W. Fred Stone and then to the late Lester L. Schwab.

Virginia was predeceased by her parents, two brothers, a sister, two sisters-in-law and her husbands.

She is survived by a son, William F. Stone Jr. and his wife, Janice, of Josephville, Missouri, and a daughter, Barbara Ann Doughty and her husband, Russell, of Nixa, Missouri. She has three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Also, she has three stepdaughters, seven stepgrandchildren and six great-stepgrandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Desert Garden United Church of Christ in Sun City West and at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Chaparral Winds.

Finally, there will be a memorial service at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 20 at Centenary Church in Cape Girardeau. The grandchildren and great-grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family wishes to thank Hospice of The Valley and caretaker Liz Gardea for their compassion and care.

Camino De Sol Funeral Home and Crematory in Sun City West is in charge of arrangements.
