Virginia Lee Criddle, 91, of Jackson, formerly of Cape Girardeau, died Saturday, Nov. 21, 2015, at the Jackson Manor.
She was born May 14, 1924, in Crump, Missouri, to Willard Otis and Hester Whitticre Brown.
She and Everett Eugene Criddle were married May 23, 1948, at Cape Girardeau. He preceded her in death June 13, 1988.
She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau.
She was a 1942 graduate of Cape Central High School and had worked at the Southeast Missouri Telephone Company but left that job on maternity leave for her daughter, Donna Kay, and future son, Darrell, to become a full-time mother.
Virginia was the first demo food lady starting at the A&P grocery store on Spanish Street in the late 1960s and continued that role until 2000.
She became a resident at the Monticello House in Jackson on July 26, 2003, and was there until Donna moved her to the Jackson Manor on Sept. 10, 2015.
Virginia volunteered for the American Red Cross and was given a special recognition luncheon for her 30 years of service.
Survivors include a daughter, Donna Kay McClard of Jackson; brother, Donald W. (Aletha) Brown of Jackson; three grandchildren, Tara Kay (Cody) Newell-Koehler of Glenallen, Missouri, Shelby Lynn Criddle-York of Sikeston, Missouri, and Taylor Lane McClard of Jackson; and three great-grandchildren, Tristan Micheal Newell, Austin Riley Newell and Gavin Lee York.
Pallbearers include Donald Brown, Jim Criddle, Shelby York, Michael Mize, James Bowers and Randy Criddle. Honorary pallbearers include Eric Criddle, Lane McClard, Tristan Micheal Newell and Austin Riley Newell.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and son, Darrell, who passed away October 22, 1986.
Visitation will be held from noon until time of services at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau, with Pastor Richard Combs officiating.
Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.
Memorial contributions may be given to American Red Cross, American Cancer Society or to the charity of one's choice.
