Virginia Collier

Virginia Belle Collier, 76, of Scott City died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

She was born May 1, 1928, in Oneida, Tenn., daughter of Hurstle and Lucy Laxton. She and Charles Collier were married Feb. 9, 1948. He died June 11, 1993.

Collier was a graduate of East Prairie High School and taught two years in a rural school. She lived in the Lusk Chapel area 30 years, and had been a bookkeeper at First Security State Bank in Charleston, Mo., and Cargill and Bunge Grain Elevators, and also kept books for the Collier farming operation.

She lived in Barlow, Ky., 23 years and was a member of Victory Baptist Church. After moving to Scott City she became a member of Illmo Baptist Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Lynda Gant of Jackson, Joyce Collier of Scott City, Sharon Collier of Atlanta, Ga.; three sisters, Rosie Drum of Oak Ridge, Kathleen Amos of Park Hills, Mo., and Doris Austin of Cape Girar-deau.

Also surviving are seven brothers, Hurstle Laxton Jr. of Bera, Ky., Sidney Laxton of Farmington, Mo., Joe Laxton of St. Louis, George Laxton of High Ridge, Mo., Harry Laxton of Cleveland, Texas, Bill Laxton of Scott City, Charles Laxton of Jackson; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery.
