OAK RIDGE, Mo. -- Virgil O. Thompson, 100, of Oak Ridge died Friday, April 20, 2001, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born April 12, 1901, at Oak Ridge, son of Herbert and Ida Harris Thompson. He and Ada Ruesler were married Oct. 5, 1927. She died May 14, 1946. He later married Lela Dambach Nov. 14, 1949.
Mr. Thompson was a member of Zion United Methodist Church at Old Appleton, Mo., and former member of Oak Ridge United Methodist Church.
He was a lifelong resident and farmer in the Oak Ridge community. He was a charter member of Cape County Coon Hunters Club, and recently celebrated his 100th birthday at the Cape County Coon Hunters Hall in Daisy, Mo.
Loving survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Nelson Thompson of Oak Ridge, Dale and Betty Thompson of Biehle, Mo.; a daughter and son-in-law, Gladys and Bob Nitsch of Jackson, Mo.; a daughter-in-law, Linda Thompson of Jackson; eight grandchildren, Bradley and Brian Thompson of Jackson, Brenda Thompson of Chesterfield, Mo., Glenn Thompson of Oak Ridge, Donna Stovall of Jefferson City, Mo., Kevin Nitsch of Rochester, N.Y., Darla Hemmann of Chesterfield, Jody Thompson of Biehle; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Glen H. Thompson; a sister; and five brothers.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. The Rev. Susan Hoyle will officiate. Burial will be in Goshen Cemetery near Oak Ridge.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Goshen Cemetery Fund or Zion United Methodist Church in Old Appleton.
