SCOTT CITY -- Funeral service for Virgil (Smokey) Brant of Wappapello will be held at 2 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel here. The Rev. Rennie Phillips will officiate, with burial in Lightner Memorial Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 8 a.m. until time of service.

Brant, 62 years old, died Monday, March 18, 1991, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

He was born Feb. 22, 1929, at Ancell, son of Lester and Lena Cramer Brant. He and the former Ruby Kinder were married Sept. 9, 1948, at Benton.

Brant was a riverboat pilot with Corps of Engineers 10 years, and then was a truck driver 18 years with Teamsters Local 574 in Cape Girardeau.

He attended Memorial Wesleyan Church here, and was a member of Teamsters 574, and Eagles at Wappapello.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Ricky Brant of New York City, Kenny Brant of Scott City; a daughter, Brenda Harper of Cape; a sister, LaVerne Knorr of West Jordan, Utah; four grandchildren, and a stepgrandchild.

He was preceded in death by a son, Terry Lee Brant in 1988, a sister and brother.
