PUXICO -- Funeral service for Virgil Payton of Puxico will be held at 11 a.m. today at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Puxico. The Rev. Marshall Link will officiate, with burial in Puxico Cemetery.
Payton, 80, died Sunday, Aug. 17, 1997, at his home.
He was born March 22, 1917, at Chaonia, son of Albert and Margaret Jane White Payton.
Payton worked 41 years at IXL Manufacturing Plant, retiring as foreman. He was a member of First Baptist Church, had taught Sunday School, was Sunday School superintendent many years, and served as a deacon 38 years. He was a member of Puxico VFW Post 7822. He served in the Army Air Force during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Lillie; a son, Larry Payton of Puxico; two brothers, William Payton of Louisville, Ky., Herbert Payton of St. Peters; two sisters, Pearly McClure of Springfield, Elsie Brents of Holland, Mich.; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.
