COBDEN, Ill. -- Virgil Ray Miller, 78, of Cobden died Tuesday, March 23, 1999, at Portage Hospital in Hancock, Mich. He was born April 30, 1920, in Paragould, Ark., son of James Henry and Minnie Summers Miller. He and Willadine R. Shasteen were married Aug. 28, 1945, in Jonesboro. She died June 1, 1987...

COBDEN, Ill. -- Virgil Ray Miller, 78, of Cobden died Tuesday, March 23, 1999, at Portage Hospital in Hancock, Mich.

He was born April 30, 1920, in Paragould, Ark., son of James Henry and Minnie Summers Miller. He and Willadine R. Shasteen were married Aug. 28, 1945, in Jonesboro. She died June 1, 1987.

Miller retired as a building engineer at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. He was a member of Cobden American Legion Post 259, and a veteran of World War II.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Wallace of Cobden; a son, Terry Miller of Laurium, Mich.; two brothers, Jake Miller of Harrison, Ark., Cyril Miller of Jonesboro, Ark.; a sister, Mildred Childers of Jonesboro, Ark.; and four grandchildren.

Friends may call at Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Cobden after 6 p.m. Friday.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Charles Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in Cobden Cemetery, with military rites by American Legion Post 259.
