MARBLE HILL -- Virgil A. Schneider, 74, of Marble Hill, died Saturday, April 10, 1993, at the family home. He was born Dec. 25, 1918, at Marquand, Mo., son of Casper and Charlotte Green Schneider. He was married to Margaret Buckingham, Oct. 22, 1967...

MARBLE HILL -- Virgil A. Schneider, 74, of Marble Hill, died Saturday, April 10, 1993, at the family home.

He was born Dec. 25, 1918, at Marquand, Mo., son of Casper and Charlotte Green Schneider.

He was married to Margaret Buckingham, Oct. 22, 1967.

Schneider was a retired Chief Petty Officer of the United States Navy.

He was a member of the Scopus United Methodist Church. He was past president of the Scopus Volunteer Fire Department. Schneider was secretary and treasurer of the VIP Industries. He served as president of the Bollinger County Historical Society. Schneider was a member of the VFW Post 5900, American Legion Post 1000, the Fleet Reserve Association Branch 9, the National Association of Federal Employees Chapter 4 and Chapter 626 and the Trowel Masonic Lodge 440 of Marble Hill.

Survivors include his wife; three sons Walter Schneider of the country of Thailand, Richard Russell of LaJolla, Calif., Paul Russell of San Diego, Calif.; a daughter, Judith Lancefield of Pullman, Wash.; three sisters, Velma Schneider, Virginia Johndrow and Margie Hart, all of St. Louis; three brothers, John Schneider of St. Louis, Casper Schneider of Bloomsdale, Mo., the Rev. Charles Schneider of Athens, Ga.; 13 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.

Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at the Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill. There will be a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m. today.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill, with Bro. James Hartman and the Rev. Lloyd Englemann officiating.

There will be a burial at sea at a later date at San Diego, Calif.
