EAST PRAIRIE -- Violet Branum Brown Long, a resident of East Prairie, died Friday, Sept. 18, 1998, at Southeast Missouri Hospital. She was 69.

She was born Dec. 1, 1928, in the Sugartree Ridge Community in New Madrid County, daughter of Churchill and Ruth Schneider Branam.

She married Calvin Brown on Jan. 10, 1945. He died Feb. 4, 1967. She married Paul Long on June 24, 1967. He died Jan. 19, 1990.

She had lived in East Prairie most of her life and was a member of the Gospel Kingdom Church in Anna, Ill.

She is survived by two daughters, LaDonna Cates of Charleston and Margaret Johnson of New Madrid; five sisters, Mabel Bowles of Hopedale, Ill., Francine Mason of Christopher, Ill., Loraine Fraley of Clinton, Ky., Georgia Furlow of Du Quoin, Ill., and Doris Carden of Tamarora, Ill.; three brothers, Jay Branam of Columbus, Ky., Glen Branam of Clinton and Anthony Branam of East Prairie; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a special loved one, Ryan Harris of New Madrid.

Her parents and two brothers preceded her in death.

Visitation will be after 5 p.m. today at the Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie. Funeral will be at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the Shelby Chapel with Brother Bonn Reynolds officiating.

Burial will be at East Prairie Memorial Park Cemetery.
