Viola "Vi" Weber Smith, 74, of Newburgh, Ind., died Thursday, May 29, 2003, at Deaconess Hospital. She was born March 21, 1929, to Joseph Ludwig Weber and Caroline Schram Weber Grootens. She attended St. Mary's Cathedral School in Cape Girardeau.

Survivors include her husband of 10 years, Dr. Clarence Smith; three children, Julie Diaz of Evansville, Ind., Jon Crunk of Kansas City, Mo., and Jennifer Hollub of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; four sisters, Anna Creel of Jefferson City, Mo., Helen Clark of East Hampton, Conn., Marcella Zumwalt of Hannibal, Mo., and Ella Seiser of Cape Girardeau; five brothers, Dennis Weber of Belton, Mo., Joe Weber of St. Charles, Mo., Jerome Weber of St. James, Mo., and Charlie Weber and James Weber of Cape Girardeau; a stepsister, Martha Simmons of Cape Girardeau; a stepbrother, Bill Grooten of Quincy, Ill.; two stepchildren, Greg Smith and Julie Vetter; and eight grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a husband, James Crunk, one sister and one brother.

Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel in Evansville, Ind.

Funeral will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with Thomas L. Sale officiating. Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery.
