Viola M. Schlegel, 76, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, April 26, 2007, at the Lutheran Home.
She was born June 19, 1930, in Cape Girardeau County, daughter of Benjamin and Clara Neidling Exler. She and Norbert Schlegel were married June 24, 1951, at Egypt Mills.
Schlegel worked for Rigdon's and Tipton's Laundry a number of years. She then worked at Southeast Missouri Hospital 22 years, retiring in 1995.
After retirement she was a volunteer at Southeast Hospital and REACT-Highway Help Assistance. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her husband; a son, Darrell (Joy) Schlegel of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Karen (Gary) Garner of Cape Girardeau; grandchildren, Ben Schlegel, Cassandra and Sid Miller, Emily Schlegel, all of Cape Girardeau, James Park of Jackson, special granddaughter, Crystal Garner of Cape Girardeau; and a great-grandchild, Kimberly Seabaugh of Scott City.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Sharon Park; two brothers, Ralph and Emil Exler; four sisters, Stella Exler, Erma Nabe, Cecil Dunn and Gertrude Cotner.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Nathan Burgell officiating. Burial will be in Egypt Mills Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery.
