Viola A. McCain, 91, formerly of Hines Landing, Mo., died Friday, June 15, 2001, at the Fountainbleau Lodge in Cape Girardeau. She was born Jan. 30, 1910, at Hines Landing, daughter of John and Eliza Craft Cotner. She and William "Bill" T. McCain were married March 23, 1929. He died May 9, 1987...

Viola A. McCain, 91, formerly of Hines Landing, Mo., died Friday, June 15, 2001, at the Fountainbleau Lodge in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Jan. 30, 1910, at Hines Landing, daughter of John and Eliza Craft Cotner. She and William "Bill" T. McCain were married March 23, 1929. He died May 9, 1987.

McCain was a lifelong member of New Bethel Baptist Church near Pocahontas, Mo., where she taught Sunday school 35 years and held various offices. She cooked in many restaurants in Jackson, and from 1970 until retirement in 1975, McCain cooked at the Fruitland School.

Survivors include two sons, Chester McCain of Jackson, Mo., and Larry McCain of Cape Girardeau; a brother, Richard Cotner of California; two sisters, Rosalie Ackman and Vertie Meyer, both of Jackson; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons and three brothers.

Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson from 4-8 p.m. today.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at New Bethel Baptist Church near Pocahontas, Mo. The Revs. Don Slatton and Thomas Bray will officiate, with burial in the church cemetery.
