ORAN, Mo. -- Viola Marie Dirnberger, 96, of Oran passed away Thursday, June 7, 2018, at Chateau Girardeau, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born Sept. 22, 1921, in Oran to the late Albert and Rosalia Welter Dannenmueller. She and Robert Frank Dirnberger married Sept. 24, 1940, and he preceded her in death Oct. 6, 1972.
Viola was a homemaker in her own home. She was a member of Guardian Angel Catholic Church in Oran. She was a member of St. Ann Sodality. For many years, Viola was lead cook at the Fourth of July dinners at the Oran Knights of Columbus annual picnic and lead cook at many weddings. She loved to make hand-quilted quilts for family and friends. Her hobbies included playing pinochle and euchre and collecting angel figurines and souvenir spoons from around the world. Viola loved dancing, especially waltzes, polkas and country two-step. She enjoyed her trip to Europe in 1971 and to Hawaii in 2001.
She is survived by two sons, Kenneth (Akiko) Dirnberger of The Villages, Florida, and Butch (Cathy) Dirnberger of Oran; a daughter, Brenda Bollinger of Oakville, Missouri; a daughter-in-law, Debbie Dirnberger of Oran; a brother, Alfred Dannenmueller of Pittsburgh; a sister, Bertha Lloyd of St. Charles, Missouri; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren, with one on the way.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Thomas Dirnberger; a daughter-in-law, Carole Dirnberger; two brothers, Cornelius and Leroy Dannenmueller; and four sisters, Velma Eftink, Lavanna LeGrand, Ella and Mary Ann Dannenmueller.
Friends may call after 4 p.m. Sunday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Oran. Rosary will be at 4 p.m., followed by KC prayers.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Guardian Angel Catholic Church, with the Rev. Randy Tochtrop officiating. Burial will be at Guardian Angel Catholic Cemetery in Oran.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Crown Hospice, Guardian Angel Catholic School or Alzheimer's Association.
