Vincent "Vince" H. Raddle, 92, a resident of Cape Girardeau, departed this life Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2022.
He was born Feb. 25, 1929, in Hardy, Arkansas, to the late Vincent Herbert and Sylvia J. Hammond Raddle.
Vince had a successful career as an educator. He taught at Cape Girardeau's Lorimier School, was the principal at Alma Schrader Elementary School and ended his career as the assistant superintendent for Cape Girardeau's elementary school system.
With family roots in the Doniphan, Missouri, area, Vince was often at his home away from home, a cabin he built on the banks of Current River. He and his wife, Peggy, were hosts to countless weekends of family fun, full of brothers, sisters and all their children swimming, grilling burgers and frying fish. Vince loved to limb line for large flatheads. The biggest he ever caught weighed more than 50 pounds. In addition to spending time on the river, Vince kept busy on his Ripley County, Missouri, "goat ranch." He baled hay, grew pecans and pursued whitetail deer there.
Vince was very active and involved in his church, First Pentecostal Church in Cape Girardeau. He served in many ways, including teaching Sunday school classes and as a deacon. He was active in the Morning Optimist Club as well.
He also served in the Army as an operating room technician during the Korean conflict.
On April 22, 1950, Vince married Peggy Joyce Ponder. She preceded him in death in October 2020. They celebrated 70 years of marriage. She was his "Momma Bear," and he was her "Poppa Bear."
Surviving are his two children, Dennis Raddle (fiancee, Deborah Osterholm Jung, and son, Adam Jung) of Cape Girardeau and Sandra Carnahan (Jim Morrison) of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; grandchildren, Bryan Carnahan, Lauren (Cameron) Duvall, Tara Raddle and Amy Raddle (fiance, Awsten Powell); and three great-granddaughters, Audrey, Harper and Nora Duvall. Also surviving is his sister, Emily West of Poplar Bluff.
Vince was preceded in death by his sister, Rosie Badgley, and son-in-law, Don Carnahan.
There will be no public visitation.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau. The family requests that face coverings be worn. Burial will be at Amity Cemetery in Doniphan with the Rev. Darrell Faire officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the American Diabetes Association or the Alzheimer's Association.
