Vincent James "Jim" Polito of Cape Girardeau died Monday, March 19, 2007, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Gir?ar?deau.

He was born in Du Quoin, Ill., son of Phillip and Liboria Manderachia Polito. He and Sharon E. Hanna were married on Nov. 15, 1980, in St. Louis.

Polito was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy from Sept. 21, 1942, to Sept. 24, 1945. He was a pipefitter for Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 562. Polito moved to Cape Girardeau in 1969. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, VFW Post No. 3838, commander of the Cape Girardeau chapter of the DAV, and a member of VietNow and Elks Lodge No. 639.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Phillip Polito of Troy, Mo., and Robbie Coomer of Chaffee, Mo.; a daughter, Jane Poole of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; two sisters, Josephine M. Polito of Orinda, Calif., and Libbie Polito of St. Louis; ten grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Frank Polito; and three sisters, Emma Bommarito, Phyllis Polito and Anne Bommarito.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home, with parish prayers at 7 p.m.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. The Rev. David Hulshof will officiate, with entombment in Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum, where there will be graveside military rites.
