Vicki Susan Johnson Walls, 73, of Jackson, formerly of Mounds, Illinois, went to her heavenly home Monday, Sept. 11, 2023, to spend eternity with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

She was born Feb. 2, 1950, in Cairo, Illinois, to the late Edward and Helen Bolen Johnson, whose hearts overflowed with love upon seeing their firstborn's sweet face, dark curly hair and beautiful brown eyes.

Vicki graduated from Meridian High School in 1968 and later received an associate degree from Shawnee Community College. Her favorite college class was creative writing, with good reason, for she proved to be a gifted writer as author of her 2019 book, "Maybe God Just Needed A Puppy", which ministers to children who have experienced the loss of a beloved pet. Publishing her book was a dream fulfilled. Seeing old friends at her book signings at the local libraries just added to her joy.

She was, in years past, a co-owner of Piedmont Pest Control in Mounds and Creative Insurance Agency in Cairo. On a personal note, she made many fond memories in her younger years as a member of Mounds Junior Woman's Club.

She was known for her witty personality and could never contain a giggle if you gave her a certain look or expression during quiet public events, where laughter would be discouraged. She also lit up the room with her loving personality, motherly advice and compassion for all people she encountered. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed hosting special dinners and celebrations with family and friends at her warm and welcoming home. She loved being near the water and experienced true pleasure in preparing meals for and visiting with dear friends while boating on Kentucky Lake.

Her favorite pastime and hobbies included taking leisurely road trips and numerous cruises with Buddy, her "Sweetie"; reading John Grisham books; gardening and collecting "Precious Moments" figurines and beautiful handmade quilts.

She was a Christian, a faithful and godly woman, treasured daughter, sister, aunt and friend to many. She was a devoted pastor's wife who served at his side for many years, most recently at East Cape (Illinois) Baptist Church. She held a special place in her heart for underprivileged or displaced children and always extended a helping hand to anyone in need. She will be deeply missed by so many.
