Veva Slayden, 84, of Little Rock, Ark., died Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003.
She was born in Cape Girardeau, daughter of John and Myrtle Grayum. She and John W. Slayden were married in 1937.
Slayden moved to Poplar Bluff, Mo., in 1938, lived in Jonesboro, Ark., from 1948 to 1986, and had lived in Little Rock since 1986.
She and her husband owned and operated The Shoe Box in Jonesboro until retiring in 1980. She was an election poll worker many years.
Slayden was involved in church activities, did volunteer work with March of Dimes, Red Cross and other organizations. She was a member of Parent-Teacher Association in Jonesboro, Readers Club and Altrusa Club.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Dr. John Slayden of Little Rock; and a granddaughter.
Friends may call at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home in Little Rock from 6 to 8 p.m. today.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Ken Jerome and John Fleming officiating. Graveside service and burial will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in City Cemetery at Poplar Bluff.
