CHARLESTON -- Graveside service for Vernon D. Smithers of Indio, Calif., will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Dogwood Cemetery, with the Rev. Gerald Collier officiating.
Friends may call at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston after noon Friday.
Smithers, 69, died Monday, March 20, 2000, at his home.
He was born Jan. 24, 1931, in Missouri, son of Paul and Lillian O. Hinton Smithers.
Smithers lived in Indio a number of years and was owner and operator of Golden Touch Pets grooming service.
Survivors include two uncles, T.S. Hinton of Pomona, Calif., J.W. Hinton of Charleston; three aunts, Carmen Hicks of Waverly, Imogene Francis of Evansville, Ind., and Jolene King of Clinton, Mich.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
