VERNON MCDERMOTT

EAST PRAIRIE -- Funeral for Vernon Houston "Bud" McDermott of East Prairie will be held at 2 p.m. today at Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie. Larry Smith will officiate, with burial in East Prairie Memorial Park Cemetery.

McDermott, 71, died Thursday, March 4, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born April 16, 1927, in Mississippi County, son of B.H. and Luella Byrd McDermott. He and Pauline Frye were married Sept. 18, 1965, at Charleston.

A lifelong resident of Mississippi County, he was a retired truck driver. He was employed by Rolwing and Moxley 17 years.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, John "Buddy" McDermott of LaCenter, Ky., Eugene Frye of East Prairie; three brothers, James, Gary and Herman McDermott, all of Charleston; four sisters, Virginia Riles of DeSoto, Frances Barborek of Sikeston, Joann Cossey of Charleston, Mary Eggers of Festus; and three grandsons.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, a brother, and a sister.
