Vernon "Lamar" Gilliland, 93, of Jackson passed away, with his family by his side, on Friday, Dec. 1, 2023, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born March 7, 1930, in Gipsy, Missouri, the son of Jasper Newton and Flora Stilts Gilliland.
For over 30 years, Lamar owned and operated Fasco Auto Supply in Fredericktown, Missouri. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was a Christian who believed in Jesus Christ.
Lamar was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was known for being honest and reliable. He was a family man who loved spending time with his wife, sons and grandchildren.
Lamar and Barbara Ann Barrett were united in marriage May 4, 1957, at Lowndes, Missouri, and she survives of the home.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Gilliland; two sons, Barry (Evelyn) Gilliland of Millersville and Brian (Donna) Gilliland of Jackson; a sister, Dianne Gibbon of Paducah, Kentucky; four grandchildren, Justin Gilliland, Christina Hornback, Jordan Gilliland and Austin Gilliland; stepgrandchildren, Richard Gill, Deanna Baldwin, Grant Frye, Derek Chenoweth and Greg Chenoweth; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Hubert and Charlie Gilliland; and a sister, Mary James.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6, at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance, Missouri.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6, at the chapel. Burial will follow at Berrong Cemetery in Gipsy.
