OLIVE BRANCH, Ill. -- Vernon "Doc" Prosser, 85, of Olive Branch died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 1993, at his home.

He was born Dec. 29, 1907, at Sailor Springs, the son of Stephen and Sarah Nottingham Prosser. On Nov. 15, 1930, he married Ida Porter, who survives of the home.

He was a machinist for many years for the Olin Corp., formerly Winchester Western, in East Alton, retiring in 1970. He also was an avid sportsman and competed throughout the Midwest in golf tournaments as a long-time member of the Olin Corp. golf team. He also was a member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace workers.

Other survivors include a daughter, Dorothy Parker of Olive Branch; two sons, David Prosser of Olive Branch, and Zane Prosser of Edwardsville; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, three brothers and five sisters.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. today at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms, where funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday. The Rev. Gene Hart will officiate, and graveside service will be at 2 p.m. at the Bethalto Cemetery in Bethalto.
