Vernell M. Poinsett, 89, of Cape Girardeau passed away Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2022, at Life Care Center in Cape Girardeau.
She was born March 18, 1932, in Dutchtown to the late Marion and Cora Hager Propst. Vernell and Calvin Poinsett were married July 15, 1970, in Lake County, Tennessee. He preceded her June 7, 2010.
Vernell attended Dutchtown Grade School and graduated from Delta High School. She worked for Thorngate in Chaffee, Missouri, for 28 years, where she was a "glider for zippers."
Vernell and Calvin loved to travel and made multiple trips each year to Branson, Missouri. She was a member of Cape First Church in Cape Girardeau.
She is survived by three nieces, Sharon (Phil) Wellin of Gordonville, Carol (Marty) Steimle of New Hamburg, Missouri, and Cindy (Gary) Lynn of Benton, Missouri; two nephews, Billy (Prudy) Propst of Gordonville and Stanley Propst of Dutchtown; a sister-in-law, Ruby Propst of Cape Girardeau; and many great-nieces and -nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Calvin, she was preceded by two brothers, Gerald and Bill M. Propst.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to service time Monday at McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Phil Wellin officiating.
Burial will be in Russell Heights cemetery in Jackson immediately after the service.
