PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Vernard E. Yamnitz, 83, of Perryville died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, at Perry County Memorial Hospital in Perryville.

He was born Nov. 2, 1917, in Perry County, son of Frederick F. and Hilda C. Hoehn Yamnitz.

He married Grace Long Sept. 23, 1944.

He was retired from Saberliner Airport as an engine mechanic and was a farmer.

He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Perryville. He served nine years in the Army Air Corps, was a veteran of World War II and a member of the VFW.

Survivors include his wife, Grace Yamnitz of Perryville; six sons, Everett Yamnitz, Bruce Yamnitz, Keith Yamnitz, Barry Yamnitz, and Bryan Yamnitz, all of Perryville, and James Yamnitz of High Ridge, Mo.; two daughters, Delight Yamnitz and Celesta Kiefer, both of Perryville; a sister, Aletha Everhardt of Greeley, Colo.; 19 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a sister, a grandchild and great-grandchild.

Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. today and from 6:30 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at Young & Sons Funeral Chapel. A VFW wake will be held at 7 p.m. today.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Craig Otto officiating. Burial will be at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.
