LICK CREEK, Ill. -- Vern Carter, 79, of Lick Creek, died Tuesday, Oct. 31, 1995, at his home.
He was born Feb. 22, 1916, in Lick Creek, son of George William and Etta Emma Beggs Carter. He and Rosa Brasel were married Dec. 29, 1934.
Carter was a member of New Hope Baptist Church, and Union Lodge 627 AF&AM. He served 12 years as district deputy grand master of the Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Rosa; two daughters, Mary Brannon of Houston, Texas, Janet Mixen of Lick Creek; six grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, sister and brother.
Friends may call at Crain Funeral Home in Anna after 5 p.m. today. A Masonic service will be held at 7:30.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Kenneth Mixen and Charles Duckworth officiating. Burial will be in McGinnis Cemetery.
