Verla B Cobble Kinder, 87, of Daisy died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2009, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Jan. 24, 1922, in Oak Ridge, daughter of Joseph and Frieda Wills Cobble. She and Glen Stephen "Dude" Kinder II were married June 13, 1947, after he returned from World War II. He died Jan. 26, 1999.

After her marriage Kinder moved from Oak Ridge to Daisy, where she resided the remainder of her life on the Kinder family homestead.

She was valedictorian of her class at Oak Ridge High School and attended Southeast Missouri State University. She taught at one-room rural schools in Southeast Missouri, including Big Springs and Daisy, and taught at Oak Ridge until her marriage.

Kinder was a member of Oak Ridge United Methodist Church, Oak Ridge Eastern Star Chapter 310 and Daisy Homemakers. She was project leader and club leader of Daisy 4-H Club and adult Sunday school teacher at New Salem United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her children and their families, Dr. James Edward Kinder of Columbus, Ohio, wife Denva and their children J.C. (Amanda), Robert and Tora; Glen Stephen Kinder III of McLeansboro, Ill., wife Sue and their children Glen IV and John (Rebecca); Betty Sue Radcliff of Chillicothe, Mo., husband Steven and children Kimberly (Luke Hesler), Katie (Ryan Skipper), Kerry and Benjamin; Joe Kirk Kinder of Daisy and wife Tammy and children Chad, Cody and Colton; and a great-grandson, Logan John Kinder.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters and a brother.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Cracraft-Miller Funeral Home in Jackson. An Eastern Star service will be held at 7.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Janet Hopkins officiating. Burial will be in New Salem United Methodist Cemetery at Daisy.

Memorials may be made to Oak Ridge United Methodist Church.
