SIKESTON, Mo. -- Vema O. Young, 84, of Sikeston died Saturday, July 1, 2000, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
She was born Oct. 30, 1915, in Fulton, Miss., daughter of Walter and Ada Pearl Tucker Kelso. She and James Howard Young were married in 1934. He died May 24, 1969.
Young lived in Joplin for a time, moving back to Sikeston in 1979. She had been a nurse aide at Missouri Delta Medical Center. She was a member of Murray Lane Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Walter Young of Sikeston, Charles Young of Sanford, Fla.; a daughter, Shirley McAfee of Sikeston; two brothers, Harley Kelso of Lemont, Ill., Dave Kelso of Greenback, Tenn.; two sisters, Vela Payne of Little Rock, Ark., Verble Curtis of Aurora, Ill.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, two brothers, and two sisters.
Friends may call at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel from 5-8 p.m. today.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the chapel, with the Rev. Kelley Grubbs officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
