Velma Margaret Lovel, 85, of Jackson died Monday, May 4, 2009, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

Lovel was born July 11, 1923, at Morley, Mo., daughter of George and Alma Stanton Elsperman. She and Claude Lee Lovel were married May 18, 1946, at Benton, Mo. He preceded her in death Jan. 19, 2002.

She was a homemaker and, for 20 years, a caseworker at the Missouri Division of Family Services Office in Sikeston, Mo. She was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau, the Red Hat Society in Morley and the Morley Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary.

Survivors include three sons, Gary Dye of Jackson, Claude Lovel and Jimmy Lovel, both of Morley; two daughters, Peggy Frohock of Jackson and Sharon LeGrand of Maryland Heights, Mo. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, a brother and a sister.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Nunnlee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston, Mo.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Morley Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jim Matthews officiating. Burial will be in New Morley Cemetery.
