Veda Baker

MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- Veda Wilma Baker, 88, of Marble Hill died Thursday, Oct. 27, 2005, at Advance Nursing Center.

She was born June 14, 1917, at Hahn, Mo., daughter of King and Ella Deck Gaines. She and Fred M. Baker were married June 27, 1936. He died Oct. 9, 1993.

Baker was a member of Point Pleasant Church.

Survivors include two sons, Clifford Baker of Troy, Mo., Michael Baker of Oran, Mo.; two daughters, Linda Stevens of Wentzville, Mo., Kay Glastetter of Chaffee, Mo.; three sisters, Velma Slaughter of Advance, Mo., Eula Nixon of Sioux City, Iowa, Carna Watkins of Cape Girardeau; two brothers, Blois Gaines of Colorado, Heuda Gaines of Granite City, Ill.; 17 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, a son, a sister, four brothers, a granddaughter and two great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at Hutchings Funeral Chapel from 4 to 8 p.m. today.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel, with the Rev. Rudy Pittman officiating. Burial will be in Union Hill Cemetery at Zalma, Mo.
