JACKSON -- Volla Charles "V.C." Friedrich, 99, of Jackson died Sunday, May 4, 1997, at his home.
He was born April 17, 1898, in Jackson, son of August H. and Martha Snider Friedrich. He and Maud M. Kasten were married May 6, 1923. She died Nov. 18, 1996.
Friedrich farmed 69 years, had been a carpenter, and a substitute mail carrier with Jackson Post Office. He was a lifelong member of Emanuel United Church of Christ.
He was named Goodyear Soil Conservation Farmer of the Year for 1948-49 and 1950-51. He had also been a leader with McFerron 4-H Club.
Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy Mayfield of Jackson; a brother, George Friedrich of Jackson; two sisters, Margaret Goodson of Oak Ridge, Elsie Barrett of Jackson; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Sam Roethemeyer officiating. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery.
