OXFORD, Miss. -- Van F. Burgess, 78, of Oxford, died Monday, Aug. 16, 2004, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford. Burgess was a former resident of Scott City. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of the Pilgrims Rest Baptist Church in Calhoun County, Miss. He was also a member of Wahabi Temple Shriners Club, Grand Lodge of Mississippi and the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry...

OXFORD, Miss. -- Van F. Burgess, 78, of Oxford, died Monday, Aug. 16, 2004, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.

Burgess was a former resident of Scott City. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of the Pilgrims Rest Baptist Church in Calhoun County, Miss. He was also a member of Wahabi Temple Shriners Club, Grand Lodge of Mississippi and the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry.

Survivors include his wife, Faye King of Oxford; a daughter, Dianna Holloway of Memphis, Tenn.; a son, David Black of Chewelah, Wash.; sisters, Janet Faye Parker of Houlka, Miss., and Etoyle Cain of Bruce, Miss.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Waller Funeral Home in Oxford from 5 to 9 p.m. today.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Waller Funeral Home. The Rev. Jeff Lawrence will officiate, with burial in North Oxford Cemetery in Oxford.
