ZALMA, Mo. -- Valmor Gene Kerns, 93 of Zalma passed away Saturday, July 3, 2021, in Cape Girardeau.
He was born in Lutesville, Missouri, to Lelan and Dorothy Kerns. His first wife, LaDonna, passed away April 28, 1972. His second wife, Cleo, passed away Sept. 20, 2003.
Valmor was raised on the family farm on Castor River near Arab, Missouri. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving honorably during the Korean War.
Valmor worked 30 years as a sixth-grade teacher and counselor in the Webster Groves (Missouri) School District. He was an advocate for higher education. When he retired, he had a master's degree in education and was just short of a doctorate. He was a member of Bethel General Baptist Church in Zalma.
To cherish his memory, he leaves two daughters, one son, two sons-in-law, two daughters-in-law, 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, and a sister and brother-in-law.
Valmor's final arrangements were entrusted to McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the donor's choice of church or charity.
A memorial observance will be announced later.
