Valerie Margaret Beardslee, beloved wife of the late Harold, was born February 28, 1905 in St. Petersburg, Russia of nobility to Joseph & Marcella (Kebort) Skarzynska. She passed away on Monday, October 5, 1998, at her home in Cape Girardeau.

She arrived at Ellis Island, New York on April 2, 1907 aboard the S.S. Baltic, from Libowa, Russia, with her late parents and sisters, Bertha and Mary, and brother Leon. Educated at the exclusive women's Notre Dame Academy in Cleveland with post-graduate studies in Europe, she became a citizen of the United States on September 25, 1951.

A historical preservationist, Mrs. Beardslee lived in Paris, New York, Chicago & Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan, moving to the Cape Girardeau area with her late husband, Harold of Commerce, MO in the 1970's. She is survived by her niece, Connie Denek of Sterling Heights, MI; and three nephews, Walter Krysicki of Ray, MI, George Selvin of Palos Verdes, CA and Robert Skarg of West Covina, CA and all their families. She is also survived by many loving great and great-great and great-great-great nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Friday, October 9, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at Ford & Sons Mt. Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau. Graveside services at Oakdale Cemetery in Commerce, MO, the Rev. Randy Tochtrop officiating, on Friday, October 9, 1998 at 3:00 p.m..In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial gifts to The Southeast Hospice at 760 S. Kingshighway, Suite C, Cape Girardeau, MO 63703.
