SIKESTON, Mo. -- Funeral for Truman G. "Slim" Limbaugh of Sikeston will be held at 2 p.m. today at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Brian Blankenship will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may call at the chapel after noon today.

Limbaugh, 97, died Sunday, March 18, 2001, at Clearview Nursing Center.

He was born Jan. 24, 1904, at Scopus, Mo., son of Jeffery and Lou Essa Green Limbaugh. He and Freeda Mae Greer were married Feb. 7, 1928, in Mound City, Ill. She died July 15, 1988.

Limbaugh played amateur baseball and also played professional baseball for the Detroit Tigers.

He was the first American Legion baseball coach in the Sikeston area, and was named to the Sports Honor Board at the Sikeston Sports Complex for contributions to youth baseball in the area. He was a charter member selected in the first group to the Southeast Missouri Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame.

Limbaugh was a bricklayer many years and was a salesman 17 years with Coca-Cola Bottling Co. in Sikeston.

He was a life member of Bricklayers Allied Craft Workers Local 23 in Cape Girardeau, East Side Church of the Nazarene in Sikeston, and had been a member of IOOF Lodge in Sikeston.

Survivors include his wife; Ercie Clayton Limbaugh of Sikeston; a half brother, Densel Slinkard of Cape Girardeau; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, a grandson and a half brother.
