Tom Halter, 71, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2022, at Saint Francis Medical Center.
He was born Aug. 14, 1950, in Cape Girardeau to Adolph and Irma Lee Schwepker Halter.
He and Cindy McLaird Essner were married April 22, 1988, in Las Vegas. She preceded him in death Aug. 15, 1997.
Tom was a 1968 graduate of Notre Dame High School. He served in the Marines from 1968 to 1972 during the Vietnam War.
He worked for Southwestern Bell as a construction manager from 1973-2001.
He was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral.
Survivors include a son, T.J. (Debra) Halter of Cape Girardeau; three daughters, Carlin (Glenn) Halter-Doyle and Kristy Halter of Cape Girardeau and Tamara (Michael) Dannenmueller of Scott City; two stepdaughters, Heather R. (Ken) Gramm and Amy (Greg) Nicholas of St. Louis; stepson, Jeff Essner of Cape Girardeau; brother, Kevin Halter of Cape Girardeau; two sisters, Sharon Dirnberger and Lisa Halter of Cape Girardeau; 20 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau. Rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. Wednesday
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Cathedral in Cape Girardeau, with the Rev. Allan Saunders officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Cape Girardeau. Full military rites will be provided by Missouri Honors Team.
