COTTAGE HILLS, Ill. -- Thurman "Whitey" Wilfong, a native of Puxico, Mo., and most recently a resident of Cottage Hills, died Saturday, Oct. 30, 1999, at Doctors Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Mo. He was 76.
He was born Dec. 19, 1922, son of Martin and Ester Harrington Wilfong. He married Mildred I. Wright in Puxico on Nov. 8, 1942. She died March 19, 1999.
He had spent most of his life in the Leora, Mo., area. Most recently he was employed by Con Agra of Alton.
He is survived by two sons, John Wilfong of Kingwood, Texas, and Kelley Wilfong of Cottage Hills; two daughters, Janice George of East Alton and Nancy Roberts of Bethalto; four brothers, Claude Wilfong of Godfrey, David Wilfong of Elsinore, Mo., Gary Wilfong of Puxico and Donald R. Wilfong of Washington; three sisters, Reva Cantrell and Vivian Pate, both of Puxico, and Bertha Gates of Dexter, Mo.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son and two brothers.
Visitation will be after 5 p.m. today at Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Puxico.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Doug Scott of Puxico officiating.
Burial will be at the Brown Cemetery near Puxico.
