Thomas F. Waltz Jr., 93, of Cape Girardeau died Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2002, at Southeast Missouri Hospital. He was born July 13, 1909, in Boon-ville, Mo., son of Thomas F. and Ferda Rogers Waltz. He and Norma Peters were married in 1941. She died Nov. 17, 1970. He and Dorothy Beaver were married in 1972. She died March 23, 1995...

Thomas F. Waltz Jr., 93, of Cape Girardeau died Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2002, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

He was born July 13, 1909, in Boon-ville, Mo., son of Thomas F. and Ferda Rogers Waltz. He and Norma Peters were married in 1941. She died Nov. 17, 1970. He and Dorothy Beaver were married in 1972. She died March 23, 1995.

Mr. Waltz graduated from Boonville High School in 1927, Central Methodist College in 1931, and Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration with an MBA in 1933.

He was a management trainee with Montgomery Ward and Co. from 1933 to 1935; an examiner with U.S. Treasury Department from 1935 to 1938; served in the accounting department with Public Service Commission in Jefferson City, Mo., from 1938 to 1949 attaining the level of assistant chief accountant. He was then employed by Missouri Utilities Co. of Cape Girardeau as an executive officer of the company from 1949 until he retired in 1974 as vice president.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1945 and attained the rank of lieutenant commander.

Mr. Waltz was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

He was a past member of Cape Girardeau Civil Service Commission, past board member and secretary/treasurer of North Main Street Levee Improvement District, past board member of Cape Girardeau United Way, past board member of Board of Greater Cape Girardeau Development Corp., past board member of Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce, past board member of Southeast Missouri Hospital, and past member of Board of Governors and trustee of Cape Girardeau Country Club.

Mr. Waltz was active with Boy Scouts and served as treasurer for the SEMO Council and received the Silver Beaver Award.

He is survived by two sons, James Frederick Waltz of Cape Girardeau, Thomas Waltz III of Kirkwood, Mo.; a stepson, Jerry Beaver of Cape Girardeau; two stepdaughters, Diane Johnson of Shawnee Mission, Kan., Susan Younghouse of Cape Girardeau; three grandchildren, Sally R. Waltz of Edin Prairie, Minn., Peter F. Waltz of Denver, Colo., Trent Waltz of Cape Girardeau; five stepgrandchildren, Jennifer Johnson of Chicago, Michael Johnson of Kansas City, Mo., Jonathan Younghouse of San Antonio, Texas, Matthew Younghouse of Milwaukee, Wis., and Emily Younghouse of Cape Girardeau.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Dit Wasco.

Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

Private graveside service will be Thursday at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Boonville.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Cape Girardeau. The Rev. Paul Kabo Jr. will officiate.

Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or First Presbyterian Church.
