Thomas A. "Tom" Layman, 59, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, Aug. 7, 2016, at Wappapello, Missouri.

He was camping with his friends and family at the place he loved dearly.

He was born February 17, 1957, in Dyersburg, Tennessee, to John Ronald and Betty Jane Reid Layman.

He and Rhonda Darlene Williams were married Nov. 18, 1982, in Memphis, Tennessee.

Tom was a graduate of Dyersburg High School and the University of Tennessee at Martin.

He was a member of Alpha Kappa Psi Fraternity.

He and Rhonda moved to Cape Girardeau 24 years ago from Paris, Tennessee, and previously lived in Dyersburg.

Tom was self-employed as "Tom the Handyman."

He was a member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Dyersburg and Lion's Club of Paris.

Survivors include his mother, Betty Jane Layman of Dyersburg; wife, Rhonda Layman of Cape Girardeau; son, Matt Martin of Cape Girardeau; two daughters, Jessica (Brandon) Greason of Liberty, Missouri, and Sarah Layman of Cape Girardeau; brother, Terry (Stephanie) Layman of Jackson, Tennessee; four grandchildren, Matthew Martin II, Tate and Hayes Greason and Marlow Fisher; and a niece, Kelsey Layman of Jackson, Tennessee.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Ronald Layman.

A celebration of life will be held today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until the time of the memorial service Tuesday.

The memorial service will be held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
