SIKESTON -- Thomas J. "Red" McVey, 69, of Sikeston died Monday, Feb. 1, 1999, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born May 30, 1929, in St. Louis, son of Howard and Kathryn Reese McVey.
He married Evelyn "Eve" Kretshmayer June 16, 1986, in Portageville.
He was a Seaman 1st class in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and was a member of the Henry Meldrum American Legion Post 114. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 3319. He had been a pipefitter with Pipe Fitters Local 562 in St. Louis and was of the Catholic faith.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Dennis McVey and Mike McVey, both of St. Louis; two daughters, Debbie McVey and Barbara McVey, both of St. Louis; two stepsons, Don Rodgers, stationed in Korea, and William Rodgers of the state of Virginia; three stepdaughters, Cathy Hinklin of Patterson, Renee Piner of Warren, Ark., and Sandra Hughey of Clearwater, Fla.; and 12 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son and two brothers.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel, with a prayer service at 7:30.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Sikeston, with Monsignor William Stanton officiating.
Burial will follow in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.
