JACKSON -- Thomas Allen Burke Jr., 71, of Jackson died at his home Monday, May 9, 1994.

He was born Nov. 28, 1922 at Mason City, Iowa, the son of Thomas Burke and Elizabeth Price.

He married Sally Ann Horn on Nov. 3, 1951. She survives.

He is also survived by one son, Thomas Burke III, St. Charles; four daughters, Sarah Lee Burke, Jackson, Tenn., Mary Frances Borgschulte, St. Louis, Carolyn K. Burke, Murpheysboro, Tenn., Paula Jean Burke, Cape Girardeau; one brother, William F. Burke, Clear Lake, Iowa; one sister, Katherine Harrer, Mason City, Iowa; one granddaughter.

One son and one brother preceded him in death.

Burke attended the University of Iowa where he was active in Sigma Nu fraternity. He was engaged in the field of welding from 1952 to 1986, when he retired from Lenco. He had worked for Lenco 22 years.

From 1959 to 1962, he also owned and operated a bowling lane in Independence, Iowa.

The Burkes moved to Jackson in 1974 from Independence, Iowa.

He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jackson, the Jackson American Legion, the Cape Girardeau V.F.W. He was a fourth-degree knight with the Knights of Columbus and ombudsman with the Area Agency on Aging.

He also served in the Army, in the Pacific Theater from 1943 to 1946.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Msgr. Edward Eftink officiating. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery.

Visitation was held Tuesday at McCombs Funeral Home with parish prayers and a Knights of Columbus service held Tuesday night.
