Thelma Van Zant, 85, of Keokuk, Iowa, died Wednesday, Dec. 2, 1998, at River Hills Nursing Home in Keokuk.
She was born Aug. 11, 1913, in Bollinger County, daughter of Jasper Samuel and Grace Sample McGee. She and Herbert Louis Sohl were married Feb. 13, 1936. He died Nov. 15, 1969. She later married Paul Van Zant Feb. 25, 1973. He died Aug. 14, 1991.
Van Zant was a 1930 graduate of Central High School, and a member of its girls basketball team.
She was an agent 25 years with her husband at Sohl Insurance Agency in Keokuk, retiring in 1973.
Van Zant was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Keokuk, Eastern Star, Kings Daughters, Beta Sigma Phi, Ladies of the Elks, Keokuk Area Hospital Auxiliary, and Tuberculosis Association.
Survivors include two sons, Herbert Sohl of Keokuk, Donald Sohl of Hamilton, Ill.; a daughter, Sandra Seabold of Keokuk; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, a granddaughter, and a great-grandson.
Friends may call at Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk from 7-9 p.m. Sunday.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Paul Church, with the Rev. Fred Lohman officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery at Keokuk.
