Thelma Juanita Chron Kies, 82, passed away Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003, at the Lutheran Home, where she had resided for several years. She was born Sept. 2, 1921, in Charleston, Mo., daughter of William and Dessie Sitzes Chron. She was married to William J. Kies Jr. Dec. 11, 1942. To them were born two sons, Joseph and Jim. Thelma Juanita Chron Kies, 82, passed away Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003, at the Lutheran Home, where she had resided for several years.

She was born Sept. 2, 1921, in Charleston, Mo., daughter of William and Dessie Sitzes Chron. She was married to William J. Kies Jr. Dec. 11, 1942. To them were born two sons, Joseph and Jim. They made their home in Cape Girardeau.

Thelma was an interior decorator, decorating many of the KFVS Dream Homes, which were built by Riverside Lumber Co., with whom her husband was associated. In later years, she sold real estate for Century 21 McElrath Heartland Realty Co.

She was a charter member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. She was especially interested in the youth, teaching Sunday School and giving children's sermons. She was also a member of Cape Rock Chapter No. 60 O.E.S. She was an avid bridge player and loved her many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, both of her parents, her son Joseph, her only brother Bill, and a nephew.

She is survived by a son, Jim of Frankfort, Ky.; a granddaughter, Dessie Kies of Phoenix, Ariz.; sisters-in-law, Norma Blattner of Cape Girardeau, Ruth Trost of Bensonville, Ill., Monica Chron of Streamwood, Ill.; five nephews; six nieces; several cousins; and a long time devoted friend, Kim Davidson of Cape Girardeau.

Visitation will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1820 Perryville Road.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. Thomas Bass and the Rev. Joel Hebert officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Alzheimer's Association or Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1820 Perryville Road, Cape Girardeau, Mo., 63701.
