MARBLE HILL, Mo. — The Rev. Paul E. Wood, 92, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, July 5, 2008, at Eldercare in Marble Hill.
He was born Sept. 4, 1915, in Cape Girardeau to Edwin Thomas and Dona Evans Wood. He was married to Pauline Virgina Counts on June 12, 1938.
He served in the U.S. Army in World World II in the South Pacific on the island of Leyte in the Philippines.
He worked in a Civilian Conservation Corps camp, where he met Pauline, from 1937 to 1938.
Along with his wife, he was a charter member of Bethel Assembly of God Church in Cape Girardeau. He also served as minister at other Assembly of God churches.
He worked for 35 years at the Marquet Cement Plant in Cape Girardeau.
He is survived by his wife; four sons, Paul Wood of Lady Lake, Fla., Bill Wood of Alvin, Texas, Ron Wood of Dickinson, Texas and Kevin Wood of St. Louis; a daughter, Donna Gardner, of Marble Hill; two sisters, Reva McClain of Cape Girardeau and Shirley Emmons of West Paducah, Ky.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Brenda Gilder; two brothers, Tom and Leonard Wood; and four sisters, Betty Masterson, Doris Arnzen, Patsy Deitz and Norma Wood.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Lorberg Memorial Funeral Chapel.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel, with the Rev. Charles Lance officiating. Burial will follow at the Fairmount Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
The Delta team will provide military honors.
Pallbearers will be Jim Niedbalski, Terry Borgfield, Jordan Garner, Ian Grantwood, Mark Grindstaff and Herb Gilder.
Lorberg Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
