GAMALIEL, Ark. -- The Rev. Nyman R. Matthews of Gamaliel, formerly of Sikeston, Mo., died Thursday, July 30, 1998, at his residence.
He was born May 11, 1933, in Bertrand, son of Lee and Emma Heath Matthews.
He married Mary Louise Hornbeck on March 22, 1953. She survives of the home.
He had lived in Gamaliel since 1978. He was a retired minister of the Assembly of God churches and had pastored in Vanduser, Mo., Gainesville, Ga., and Bakersfield, Mo. He was a member of the First Assembly of God in Sikeston and served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War.
Survivors include two daughters, Sondra Puckett of Sikeston and Becky Robbins of Mountain Home; a brother, Etchel Matthews of Dogwood; two sisters, Pauline Duke of Sikeston and Betty Bradley of Dogwood; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Shelby Funeral Chapel in East Prairie, Mo. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Loren Wooten officiating. Burial will be at Dogwood Cemetery. Services will also be held today in Gamaliel.
