WYATT -- Thatus Aluther Smith, 90, died Monday, Sept. 8, 1997, at his home.
He was born Jan. 16, 1907, in Belmont, Mo., the son of Miles and Hallie Nevel Smith. On Sept. 24, 1938, he married Bedella Walker.
He retired from farming.
He belonged to St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Henson, Mo.
Survivors include: his wife, seven sons; Luther Smith of East St. Louis, James Smith of Carlyle, Ill., Thatus Smith Jr. of Omaha, Neb., Jewel Smith of Peoria, Ill., Audrey Smith of Centralia, Ill., Larry Smith of Arlington, Texas, and Gary Smith of Chester, Ill.; seven daughters, Irene Acoff of St. Louis, Thelma Smith of Carlyle, Ill., Stella Shackleford of Wyatt, Carliss Sager, Shirley Burke and Fannie Smith all of Aurora, Ill., and Linda Suggs of Centralia, Ill.; 50 grandchildren, and 30 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday at the Sparks Funeral Home in Charleston.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Rev. William Watson officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery near Charleston.
