OLIVE BRANCH, Ill. -- Terry Gowin, 83, of Olive Branch died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2015, at his home.
He was born July 4, 1931, in Oblong, Illinois, son of Kenneth and Pauline Alexander Gowin. He married Gladys Simpkins on Oct. 4, 1950. She preceded him in death March 23, 1999.
Terry was a partner in the family business, Gowin Co. Inc. The company was a John Deere dealer in Olive Branch and Cape Girardeau, and in later years became a hardware store. After retirement, Terry took his expertise to Lowe's in Cape Girardeau and worked there into his 70s.
He was a longtime member of Lake Milligan Baptist Church but when his health prevented him from attending, he became active in the Olive Branch Methodist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Tony (Donna) Gowin of McClure, Illinois, Tim Gowin of the Philippines, Tom Gowin of Olive Branch; six grandchildren, Laura, Terry, James, Danielle, Justin and Jamie; five great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and other relatives.
Besides his wife and parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Ted Gowin, and a sister, Carol Ann Hoerr.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time Saturday at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms, Illinois.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with Brent Gordon officiating. Interment will be in Green Lawn Memorial Gardens.
